Under head coach, Bryan Dionne the Boothbay Region football team has shifted into a new independent league this year away from class D football. This change has proved successful in the season so far, with the Seahawks currently holding a 4-1 record. Last Friday night, under the lights, BRHS participated in the homecoming and senior night game against Telstar. With recent success against this team in past years, this game was no different for the Seahawks, demolishing Telstar 41-6. Boothbay bounced back after a previous defeat last week at the hands of Sacopee Valley, holding Telsar to only 88 total yards on offense compared to the Hawk’s 353 total yards.
A major part of the Boothbay’s success was senior captain Carter Babcock’s 143 rushing yards, 10 yards receiving, and a total of three touchdowns at fullback. He had another score coming on an interception returned for a touchdown, as well as leading the team with 10 tackles on the defensive side playing linebacker. At quarterback, another senior captain, Duncan Drapeau was the second leading rusher with 76 yards and had the team’s other two touchdowns. And again another senior Bryan Otero was the team’s third leading rusher with 61 yards. Alex Smith and Mitchell Andrews also scored for Boothbay, with Smith pulling in a tough catch to score on a two point conversion after a touchdown, and Andrews successfully kicking 3 out of 5 extra points. On the defensive side, senior Michael Ripley was the team’s second leading tackler, with 9. Zach Blackman, Cameron Crocker, and Jeremy Holbrook were the third leading tacklers with 7. Cam Crocker and Jacob Wilson both also recorded a sack in this game. Overall Boothbay hung tough after last weeks loss and was able to be resilient and perform exceedingly well in a game I’m sure the seniors on the team will not forget.
